For a small boat like mine, this means adopting a low-profile approach, going incognito to avoid drawing attention in potentially dangerous waters. While my vessel may not carry valuable cargo, the real concern lies in safeguarding the most precious cargo of all—my own safety and well-being.
In response to these circumstances, I’ve embarked on a quest to discover new routes and possibilities suggested by a fellow adventurer Gerhard Moolman. It’s not just about having a Plan B or a Plan C; it’s about embracing the spirit of adventure and exploring uncharted waters both literally and figuratively.
One exciting alternative Gerhard mentioned that has captured my imagination involves charting a course up the legendary Nile River. Picture this: a 900-kilometer journey from the heart of Egypt, navigating the ancient waterway to the town of Qena, and then continuing overland by trailer to the Red Sea port of Safaga.
Now, I won’t deny that this route presents its own set of challenges. The Nile’s currents can be unpredictable, flowing at varying speeds of up to 4.5 knots in different stretches. Yet, it’s precisely these challenges that inspire me—a chance to embrace the unknown and experience the beauty of the world from a unique perspective.
As I await confirmation from my agent in Port Suez regarding the feasibility of this alternative passage, I remain filled with optimism. This journey isn’t just about reaching a destination; it’s about the joy of discovery, the thrill of overcoming obstacles, and the resilience of the human spirit.
